I agree completely & IWU is ignorant
Pretending to be “dead” and not talking to raise awareness for AIDS isn’t doing anything.
You don’t raise awareness on one day by not talking.
If you really cared about the cause you would talk about it daily and actually do something about it.
Not just sit in class and not have to answer…
I was just thinking this yesterday. When I heard people were going to pretend to be dead to raise awareness I about died myself. They talked about AIDS like it’s something that affects one group of people. As if we are immune from its impact and therefore need to donate money and pray and be good Christians.
Well, honestly, AIDS might as well be replaced with the word “cancer” if you want to talk about bringing about awareness. AIDS is not some far off intangible disease. 56,000 people were diagnosed with HIV in the United States in 2006. That number continues to increase & it is not an “Africa problem”. It’s more prevalent in our culture than we realize, and 1 in 5 people don’t know they are infected at all. Washington DC has a prevalence of 3.2% of the population with HIV, which is comparable to the population that has HIV in sub-Saharan AFRICA.
So I could rant more, but really, next time you talk about a disease, realize that your silence is killing more people than your voice could save
